Why I am amending the Town Forum motion

Ahead of Tuesday's Bray MD meeting, Cllr Winstanley explains why she's amending a colleague's motion to set up a "Town Centre Forum." While she supports the goal of bringing traders, landlords, residents and the council together to revive Bray town centre, she argues a self-invented Forum has no route into national regeneration funding. Her amendment instead proposes a Town Team, the recognised model already working in towns like Roscommon, which taps into the Town Centre First programme and funds like the URDF, RRDF, and Town and Village Renewal Scheme. Her version also swaps a simple "Action Plan" for a town centre health check followed by a proper Masterplan, the kind of evidence-based document funders actually expect to see. She won't support the original motion, fearing it would become a well-meaning talking shop with no resources to deliver.

Why Bray Needs a Town Team

We don't have one problem on Bray Main Street, we have several, and no single person, not the council, not landlords, not traders, not central government, can fix them alone. That's exactly the kind of problem a town team exists to solve.

What's Really Happening on Bray Main Street

Recently I've had a lot of conversations about Bray town centre. I was interviewed by the Irish Times about vacant properties. I've been contacted by constituents about a new vape shop opening. And separately, I've had people get in touch about the quality of some of the businesses opening up around the town.
